Why I Procrastinated for Years and How I Finally Overcame My Fears

  • Why I Procrastinated for Years and How I Finally Overcame My Fears

Have you ever wondered why you procrastinate, even when you really want to move forward? For years, I struggled with starting something as simple as a YouTube channel. Why? Well, for one, I had no clue what I would talk about. Plus, I assumed YouTube was already over-saturated. But the biggest obstacle? My battle with addiction and self-image.

The Struggle with Addiction and Self-Sabotage

My mind was a battlefield, constantly telling me I wasn’t good enough. My addict brain went straight to negativity: “No way, no how will I ever do this.” Don’t we all hate how our brains seem to protect us by feeding us self-doubt and limiting beliefs?

Recovery Brings Confidence: It’s Time to Take Action

Fast forward to today: after years in recovery, my mind is clearer, and my confidence has grown. I can finally say, “I don’t care what anyone thinks. I’m going for it!”

As Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel famously said, “I don’t care what you think about me, I don’t think about you at all.” That quote resonates with me, and it’s the mantra I now live by.

How Addiction Kept Me Stuck and What Changed

For over ten years, I struggled with painkiller addiction, from Lortab to Fentanyl. But now, I’ve found my true calling. I’ve broken free from addiction and the self-doubt that once paralyzed me. I realized it’s better to share my recovery story out loud than to stay silent. Silence doesn’t help anyone, especially not those struggling with addiction.

Overcoming Fear: Recovery is Better Out Loud

Being vulnerable online opens us up to criticism, especially as someone in recovery. But here’s the thing—I’m done hiding. If people want to criticize, let them. I have my tribe of supportive lions on my side, and that’s all that matters.

The real question is: what are we so afraid of? If we stand tall, like Simba with his lion pride, there’s nothing we can’t handle.

Consistency Over Talent: The Key to Success

Now, let’s talk about how you can do this too! One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that talent is cheap, but consistency is everything. You don’t need to be the most talented person out there. With consistent effort, you can beat anyone who’s just relying on their natural ability.

The same goes for our recovery journeys. Yes, many of us were saved by the grace of God, but what’s a one-time miracle without consistency? Without it, we’d fall right back into the darkness. Consistency is key.

Start Your Own YouTube Channel: Let’s Grow Together!

So here’s my challenge to you: start your own YouTube channel! I would love to support you and be part of your recovery journey. Together, we can help each other thrive and make a real impact. The road won’t always be easy, but with consistency and determination, we can achieve incredible things.

Final Thoughts: Overcome Procrastination, Embrace Recovery, and Take Action

If you’re like me and have procrastinated for years, it’s time to take action. Stop waiting for the “perfect moment”—it doesn’t exist. Whether it’s starting a YouTube channel or making progress in your recovery, remember that consistent effort is the key to making your dreams a reality.

Here’s my first YouTube video below. I’d love to follow/like and support each other! Love you, friend!
